Smith & Keene is a family-owned and operated business that has served the Hampton Roads region since 1947. Our owners are second and third generations of our founders and we only employ dedicated, long-term employees with hundreds of years of combined experience.

Smith & Keene History in Hampton Roads

In 1947, two electricians at Newport News Shipyard decided to put their skills and knowledge of electrical wiring to work. They started Smith & Keene Electric Service, Inc. in Archie Smith’s garage in Newport News, building their business on the principles of quick service, quality workmanship, and superior equipment. Today, their second and third-generation family members are still running this business on these same principles, and we’ve become a household name in Hampton Roads because of our commitment to them.

Compete For A Cure

We were proud to be a sponsor of the Crossfit Krypton’s 3rd Annual Compete for a Cure event. Each year it gets bigger and stronger. In 2018, over $70,000 was raised and 100% of that went straight to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

In January 2020, we made a donation for every generator sold to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Smith & Keene Lends PORTCO a Helping Hand

When we heard that local non-profit PORTCO, was in need of replacing their much-aged HVAC system, we were eager to help. Not only were we able to save PORTCO on the installation of the new system, but they will also save an estimated $36,000 in utility bills.
